Neurology is the branch of medicine concerned with the study and treatment of disorders of the nervous system. The nervous system is a complex, sophisticated system that regulates and coordinates body activities. It has two major divisions: Central nervous system: the brain and spinal cord.
The central nervous system consists of the brain and spinal cord. The brain is divided into two hemispheres: left and right. They are connected by a band of white matter called the corpus callosum. The corpus callosum allows communication between both hemispheres and also provides a pathway for signals from one hemisphere to travel to another.
The cerebrum is located on top of the brainstem, which supplies motor functions such as movement, balance, eye movement, etc.; it also controls cognition (thinking). The cerebellum helps control coordination; it also plays an important role in learning new skills because it receives information from other parts of your brain via feedback loops called synaptic transmission pathways which connect neurons together so that each can signal its identity back to others through electrical signals sent through synapses (small gaps between neurons).
